These categories are completely arbitrary. I have to split them up in some way.
They give a good indication of my subjects and approach.

Landscape photography captures natural scenery, emphasizing beauty, scale & composition. A classic landscape is horizontally divided into 3 sections: foreground, background, sky.
The master was Ansel Adams (1902 - 1984). His black & white images of Yosemite, and other scenery in America, have never been bettered.

What is travel photography? It documents the essence of a location, culture, landscapes and moments.
Or maybe it is just images taken somewhere you don't live.....

Long exposure is a great way of capturing images that can never be seen with the human eye. Neutral density filters can be used; Simon favors either 10 or 16 stop. This allows single exposures of up to 30 minutes. Also, multiple long exposures can be stacked using software.

Is there still a demand for black & white images? In the early days of photography, that was all there was. Color (particularly green) frightened off photographers. Monochrome certainly lends itself to snowy landscapes, and portraits.

Simon likes the challenge of taking images which don't easily explain themselves. He prefers to do as little editing as possible. He wants the result to be mainly from the electromagnetic radiation that reached the camera's sensor at the time of exposure. But if the image warrants it, Simon will spend hours in the 'darkroom' (his is Photoshop Elements).
